The Stephen Taber

Rockland, Maine

Ooooh. Now here’s a cool ride in Maine! On the Stephen Taber!

Whoooooooeeeeeeeeeee! What FUN!!!

Plus nummmmmy nummmmmmmy food, too!!!!

And…And….You can stay at a haunted bed and breakfast, too, if you want.

So okay - what’s so cool about this cool ride?????

It’s 6 days on the oldest merchant sailing vessel in continuous service in the US – The Stephen Taber!

The Stephen Taber, a coastal schooner out of Rockland, Maine.

Course they have cruises for less amounts of days, but for the maximum cool ride along the Maine Coast, 6 days is a must!!!

A lobster bake is just one of the many delicious meals on a 6-day cruise aboard the Stephen Taber.
Plus all that wonderful food…..Oh MY!!!!

They even have their own cookbook out! So you KNOW their food is nummy! It’s called A Taste of Taber: Classic Maine Coastal Cooking

There’s no go-here go-there itinerary when you’re cruising aboard the Stephen Taber. No sense of hurry, no we gotta get there by then feeling. You might get to go to Mt. Desert Island or Isle au Haut. Maybe even Monhegan Island .

Where the wind and tide takes you is where you go.

On a cruise on the Stephen Taber you might just see the Marshall Point Lighthouse. Unless, of course, it’s one of their special cruises like to lighthouses.

Maine lighthouses are so cool! Well, all lighthouses are cool! And guess what! here’s some lighthouse accommodations in Maine !

The Stephen Taber was launched in 1871, And it is still a true, true, TRUE, Maine coasting schooner. There ain’t no inboard engine. Nope. No throbbing diesel beneath your feet, no gaggy smell of exhaust. This is a cool ride back in time on a real old-time schooner.

The deck of the Stephen Taber. Go exploring islands and coves, gunkholing they call it. Wander a picturesque fishing village. Participate in a lobster bake on a deserted island. Try your hand at tying knots, hoisting sails and swabbing the deck.

Swabbing the deck?????

Well, somebody’s gotta do it!

Binoculars are a must. If you don’t have some, go buy some! There’s so much beautiful Maine coast scenery you’ll want to see it all.

Maine schooners.

And don’t forget your camera. You will want to take as much of the trip home with you as you can.

Guaranteed!!!

(P.S. You can even take the wonderful cooking home with you if you grab a copy of the cookbook mentioned above!)

And, hey, I bet you thought I forgot I mentioned a haunted bed and breakfast, huh. I didn’t forget. I didn’t. If you choose the 8-day vacation, two nights in a bed and breakfast are included. Either before or after your cruise.

Captain Lindsey House in Rockland, Maine.
One of Rockland, Maine’s haunted inns is the Captain Lindsey House. It’s run by the former captains of the Stephen Taber.

Do they advertise their ghosts?

Well, you can always ask about Captain Lindsey, the original owner of the Captain Lindsey House. Supposedly, he and 35 other spirits call this bed and breakfast their home – forever. More ghosts include another former owner of the inn and a couple of little kids waiting for their father to come get them.

Most of the ghostly happenings are in the parlor. Things like glasses of water sliding across tables, doors slamming on their own.

So what about it? A nice cruise along the Maine coast in amongst the islands, great food and a haunted bed and breakfast, too!

All in Rockland, Maine.

Can’t beat that!
